The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon opens with pleasant red fruit aromas complemented by subtle oak spice. Notes of pencil shavings, graphite, blackberry, plum and dark cherry come through, creating a ripe and juicy nose. The palate is medium to full-bodied and offers balanced tannins with a refined focus on fresh oak spices. The finish is spicy with lingering hints of soft herbs and cigar box flavours. This wine is currently drinking well and has the potential to improve with time.
Soon to be released in the US, the bold and lush 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon has a dark-fruited core with good complexity and soft oak tones. On the palate, the wine is fresh and ripe, with a core of dense, chewy black fruit that is connected to the oak by way of subtle baking spices. The mid-palate expresses a focus of balanced and structured complexity. It lingers long on the finish, showing a well-built wine that can be cellar-aged for years to come or enjoyed with fine cuts of grilled red meat for dinner tonight.
This Cabernet Sauvignon offers a rich nose with a dark-fruited core of blackberries, dark plum, cassis and soft oak spices of cinnamon and nutmeg, with a focused and dusty minerality. Full-bodied on the palate, the wine is packed with juicy and rustic dark fruit and subtle, integrated oak tones that linger through the mid-palate. It's a quality-minded wine with precise, focused balance and a long finish.

Kanonkop is a South African winery located in the Stellenbosch region of the Western Cape. Founded in 1918, the estate is renowned for its Cabernet Sauvignon, a full-bodied red wine with intense aromas of blackcurrant, cedar, and tobacco. On the palate, it has a rich, velvety texture with flavours of dark fruit, spice, and a hint of oak. The wine is aged for 12 months in French oak barrels, giving it a smooth finish.

Kanonkop's Cabernet Sauvignon is a classic example of the variety, and is a great accompaniment to red meats, game, and mature cheeses. Its intense aromas and flavours make it a perfect pairing for a variety of dishes. Whether you're enjoying a steak dinner or a cheese platter, this wine will be sure to please.

Onshore Cellars - ICONIC Producer

Kanonkop Estate is situated on the lower slopes of the Simonsberg Mountain in the Stellenbosch Region of the Cape and confidently boasts with some of South Africa’s most premium wines.

Kanonkop is a fourth generation family estate, which was originally purchased by JW Sauer, a cabinet member in the parliament of the Union of South Africa. This estate has since then been handed down from father to son forover 40 years and is now in the talented, capable hands of its current owners Paul & Johann Krige.

The name Kanonkop was derived from a kopje (hillock), from which a cannon was fired in the 17th Century to alert farmers in outlying areas that sailing ships plying the waters between Europe and the Far East had entered Table Bay for a stopover at Cape Town.

Stellenbosch is a wine region located in the Western Cape province of South Africa. It is one of the oldest wine regions in the country, with a history dating back to the 17th century. The region is known for its diverse terroir, which includes a range of soil types and microclimates that are ideal for growing a variety of grape varietals.

The wines produced in Stellenbosch are known for their bold, full-bodied flavors and complex aromas. The region is particularly well-known for its red wines, which are made from varietals such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Pinotage. These wines are often aged in oak barrels, which adds a layer of complexity to their flavor profile.

In addition to red wines, Stellenbosch also produces a range of white wines, including Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Chenin Blanc. These wines are known for their crisp acidity and bright fruit flavors, and are often aged in stainless steel tanks to preserve their freshness.

Overall, Stellenbosch is a region that is steeped in history and tradition, and its wines are a testament to the skill and expertise of its winemakers. Whether you are a seasoned wine connoisseur or a casual enthusiast, a bottle of wine from Stellenbosch is sure to impress.
