About this whisky
Yamazaki is a Japanese whisky producer that has been in operation since 1923. Located in the town of Yamazaki between Kyoto and Osaka, the distillery was founded by Shinjiro Torii, a pharmaceutical wholesaler with a passion for creating a whisky that could rival the best Scotch whiskies. The Yamazaki 12-year-old whisky is a single malt that is aged in a combination of American, Spanish, and Japanese oak casks, giving it a rich, fruity flavor with notes of peach, apricot, and vanilla. The finish is long and smooth with a hint of spice.
Yamazaki is known for its attention to detail in the production process. The water used in the distillation process comes from the nearby Oyamazaki River, which is known for its purity. The barley used in the production of the whisky is sourced from Scotland and Canada, and the yeast used in the fermentation process is a strain that was developed specifically for Yamazaki. The distillery also has a unique climate that contributes to the flavor of the whisky. The summers in Yamazaki are hot and humid, which causes the whisky to mature faster, while the cold winters slow down the maturation process.
Overall, Yamazaki 12-year-old whisky is a high-quality single malt that is well worth trying. The attention to detail in the production process and the unique climate of the distillery contribute to the complex and delicious flavor of the whisky.
