Burato is a wine producer based in the Veneto region of northeastern Italy, working within the Valpolicella DOC. The Valpolicella zone sits to the northwest of Verona, covering a series of valleys that stretch toward Lake Garda, and has long been one of Italy's most distinctive red wine territories.
Valpolicella wines are built on a blend of indigenous grape varieties, primarily Corvina Veronese, typically alongside Rondinella and Molinara, though the precise composition varies by producer and designation. The Superiore classification, which applies to Burato's current release, requires a minimum of one year of aging and carries a slightly higher minimum alcohol level than standard Valpolicella — resulting in wines with more structure and concentration. The appellation is also the source of Ripasso, Amarone, and Recioto, though Valpolicella Superiore in its own right offers a more restrained, food-friendly expression of the same grape varieties.
Burato's 2019 Valpolicella Superiore DOC represents a straightforward expression of the appellation at this level, drawing on the classic Valpolicella blend to produce a red wine suited to the table. The 2019 vintage in the Veneto was generally characterized by warm, dry conditions that supported good phenolic ripeness across the region.
