Tasting notes
Double matured in port casks, Port Ruighe, pronounced ‘Portree’ is the Gaelic spelling of the once-bustling trading port on Skye: this malt is a toast to the Scottish traders who braved the high seas and were instrumental in the foundation of the port wine trade. The port finish combines Talisker’s powerful maritime character with succulent sweet notes of rich berry fruits for a superb taste experience. Each sip brings with it a sweet smokiness of a fading wood fire with the fruity richness of ripe plums. Talisker Port Ruighe was made for sipping neat. An essential gift for whisky connoisseurs, looking to explore new depths of flavour amongst smoky island malt whiskies. Dark, rich amber gold colour. Medium bodied and softly textured. Instant, very well balanced nose, and sweet, yet not cloying; overall, rather like the sweet smokiness of a fading wood fire with the fruity richness of ripe plums. Sublime, smoky and savoury palate: spicy pepper rapidly grows into peatiness, as a creamy smokiness mingles with spice and dark fruits. Long, memorable, and mouth-filling finish, leaving on the tongue an appealing and intense cocoa-rich drying smokiness.

About this whisky
Talisker is a renowned distillery located on the Isle of Skye in Scotland. The distillery has a rich history dating back to 1830 when it was founded by brothers Hugh and Kenneth MacAskill. Talisker is known for producing some of the finest single malt Scotch whiskies in the world, and their Port Ruighe expression is no exception.
Port Ruighe is a unique expression that is finished in port casks, giving it a distinct flavour profile. The whisky is made using malted barley that is smoked over peat fires, giving it a smoky and peaty aroma. The whisky is then aged in American oak casks before being finished in port casks, which impart a sweet and fruity flavour to the whisky.
The Port Ruighe expression has a deep amber colour and a rich, complex flavour profile. On the nose, it has notes of smoke, peat, and sea salt, with hints of red fruit and spice. On the palate, it is full-bodied and rich, with flavours of dark chocolate, dried fruit, and a hint of sweetness from the port casks. The finish is long and warming, with a lingering smokiness and a touch of sweetness.
Talisker is a distillery that takes great pride in its heritage and tradition. The distillery is located on the rugged and windswept Isle of Skye, which is known for its wild and untamed beauty. The whisky produced at Talisker is a reflection of this rugged landscape, with its smoky and peaty flavour profile.
Overall, Talisker's Port Ruighe expression is a unique and complex whisky that is sure to impress even the most discerning whisky connoisseur. Its rich flavour profile and unique finish make it a standout among Talisker's already impressive lineup of single malt Scotch whiskies. Whether you are a seasoned whisky drinker or a newcomer to the world of Scotch, Talisker's Port Ruighe is a must-try.
