A polished red blend from the hills of Goriška Brda. Ripe blackberry, black cherry and plum aromas mix with cassis, violets and a touch of cedar, vanilla and sweet spice from barrel ageing. About this wine

Edi Simčič - Goriška Brda - Duet

Duet is a red blend from Edi Simčič, made in Goriška Brda, the hill country of western Slovenia. It combines Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot at 14% abv, and it is a full-bodied, polished red built for the table.

Ripe blackberry, black cherry and plum lead on the nose, with cassis, violets and a trace of cedar, vanilla and sweet spice from barrel ageing. The palate is velvety and full. Merlot's plushness is held in line by the firm tannins and freshness of Cabernet Sauvignon. The finish is long and savoury, with dark chocolate and tobacco.

Edi Simčič makes Duet from just these two grapes, a pairing with a clear division of labour: Merlot supplies fruit and softness, Cabernet Sauvignon supplies structure and grip. That freshness keeps a wine of this weight from feeling heavy.

It suits lamb, beef or a well-seared piece of red meat, and it works equally well with mushroom dishes or a plate of hard cheese. Pour it at a long dinner at the table.
