2022 was a much warmer year with lower yields, and they harvested earlier and faster. The 2022 12 Volts keeps balance and poise, with a higher percentage of carbonic maceration and shorter time in barrel. Its parameters are similar to the 2021 I tasted next to it, 12% alcohol, but it has a faint sensation of darker fruit and more concentration. It also has some slightly dusty tannins.
The 2021 12 Volts, from a cooler year without major issue in the vineyard, has a similar blend as the other years, approximately 60% Callet, 30% Syrah and the remaining 10% Mantonegro and Fogoneu. It's clean, clear, bright, fresh and floral, with moderate alcohol, 12%, fine tannins and great purity and a chalky sensation in the finish.
The 12 Volts was produced with 60% Callet, 30% Syrah and the remaining 10% Mantonegro, Fogoneu and Merlot from different vineyards in Felanitx and Binissalem, ranging from 15 to 40 years of age on red clay soils. It fermented with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel for some 20 days. Forty percent of the volume matured in 3,000-liter oak foudre, 30% in third-year barrique and the rest in fourth-year barriques, for nine months. It has only 12% alcohol and a pH of 3.6 with mellow acidity. It's a little darker than its siblings, with faint creaminess and notes of wild berries and herbs. The palate is medium-bodied with abundant, fine-grained, chalky tannins.
