Chateau de Fontaine-Audon

The Chateau de Fontaine-Audon is a renowned wine producer located in the heart of the Sancerre region in the Loire Valley of France. This historic chateau has been producing exceptional wines for over 100 years, and is known for its commitment to quality and tradition.

The estate covers 20 hectares of land, with a large portion dedicated to vineyards that are planted with Sauvignon Blanc, the signature grape of the Sancerre appellation. The unique terroir of the region, with its chalky limestone soils and cool climate, is ideal for producing crisp, mineral-driven wines that are characteristic of Sancerre.

The Chateau de Fontaine-Audon is owned by the Fouassier family, who have been winemakers in the Sancerre region since the 17th century. Their long-standing history and expertise in winemaking is reflected in the exceptional quality of their wines. The family has a deep connection to the land and takes great care in preserving the natural balance of the vineyards, using sustainable and organic farming practices.

The estate produces a range of wines, including the classic Sancerre Blanc, which is made from 100% Sauvignon Blanc grapes and is known for its refreshing acidity and notes of citrus and white flowers. They also produce a Sancerre Rosé, made from Pinot Noir grapes, and a Sancerre Rouge, made from 100% Pinot Noir grapes.

One of the standout wines from Chateau de Fontaine-Audon is their Sancerre "Cuvée Vignes Blanches," which is made from a selection of the best Sauvignon Blanc grapes from the estate's oldest vines. This wine is aged in oak barrels, giving it a rich and complex flavor profile, with notes of ripe fruit and a hint of vanilla.

In addition to their exceptional wines, the Chateau de Fontaine-Audon also offers visitors the opportunity to stay in their charming

Chateau de Fontaine-Audon

Chateau de Fontaine-Audon is a wine estate based in Sancerre, one of the most recognized appellations in the Loire Valley of central France. The property sits within a landscape defined by its distinct terroirs, producing white wines exclusively from Sauvignon Blanc, as Sancerre's appellation rules require for its whites.

Sancerre occupies the eastern edge of the Loire, where the climate is semi-continental and the soils vary considerably across the hillsides. Three soil types dominate the appellation: silex (flint), terres blanches (Kimmeridgian clay and limestone), and caillotes (limestone debris). Silex parcels are particularly associated with wines of pronounced mineral character, often described as smoky or flinty, with crisp acidity and tight structure that can support some aging.

The estate's Terroir Silex bottling reflects this site-specific approach, drawing from flint-rich parcels to produce a Sauvignon Blanc that foregrounds the mineral qualities the soil type is known for, alongside the citrus and herbal notes typical of the variety in this part of the Loire.
