Blended from vineyards in Coombsville, Jameson Canyon, Carneros and Yountville, the 2020 Chardonnay Estate is largely fermented in wood, with about 50% new French oak utilized. To retain freshness, about a fifth of the wine went into stainless-steel barrels and malolactic fermentation was blocked. It's a pretty, fruit-driven wine, with notes of apple, pear, melon and pineapple, but also full-bodied, creamy in texture and generous on the mid-palate but bright and vibrant on the finish.
Far Niente Chardonnay is a blend of superlative Napa Valley vineyards located in Coombsville, a cool growing region nestled in the rolling countryside and protected by the hills east of the city of Napa. Coombsville offers the characteristic climate of Carneros, with less wind, along with deeper, well-drained gravelly loam and volcanic ash soils. The combination of these spectacular vineyards results in the subtle, tropical flavours, complex aromas and uncommon richness that have long been associated with Far Niente Chardonnay.

Far Niente’s colourful history began in 1885 when the estate was founded by gold miner John Benson. Benson hired architect Hamden McIntyre to fulfil his dreams of constructing the grand stone winery to which he gave the evocative Italian name meaning “without a care”.
Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks before the wine is transferred to new French oak barrels where it is left to age for 7 months on the lees.
Peach blossom, ripe tropical fruit, and zingy citrus dominate the flavour profile along with hints of toast and spice from the barrel ageing. The creamy texture and medium body culminate in a long, generous finish with hints of flinty minerality.
