The Northern Rhône wine region exploded in popularity in the mid 80’s and it was really down to two people, Etienne Guigal and Robert Parker. Etienne took over the vineyard in 1946, but it was his promotional efforts of the region combined with Robert Parker that put his wine on the map. Soon the Rhône Valley became famous as a wine region producing some of the most seductively elegant and aromatic wines in the world, Guigal’s Côte Rôtie being one of them.

E.Guigal is truly a family business with Marcel, Etienne’s son, taking over the business in 1961 with the help of wife Bernadette and today their son Phillipe and wife Eve represent the third generation of this iconic property.

La Valle del Rodano produce vino da oltre 500 anni e alcuni dei suoi vigneti sono tra i più antichi di Francia. La valle del fiume si allarga a sud di Valence nella regione delle Côtes du Rhône, sulle pianure alluvionali ventose e sui pendii inferiori delle colline. È uno spettacolo imponente durante i freddi e limpidi cieli blu del Maestrale. I migliori villaggi vinicoli delle Côtes du Rhône sono stati promossi a denominazioni proprie - Vinsobres, Vacqueyras - vicine per qualità al più noto Gigondas.

Il re del Rodano meridionale è Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Qui i galets roulés, rocce arrotondate provenienti dall'antico letto del fiume, forniscono il contesto per vini rossi gloriosamente ricchi che profumano del calore e delle erbe aromatiche del sud e sono esaltati dalla complessità che deriva dall'assemblaggio di diverse varietà di uve. In tutto ne sono ammessi tredici, ma di solito domina la Grenache, con Syrah e Mourvèdre a supporto.
