Château d'Esclans is a renowned winery located in the heart of Provence, France. The estate has a rich history dating back to the 19th century when it was founded by the Gautier family. Today, the winery is owned by Sacha Lichine, a wine industry veteran who has been instrumental in elevating the estate's reputation to new heights.

One of the most notable wines produced by Château d'Esclans is Garrus, a premium rosé that has gained a cult following among wine enthusiasts around the world. Garrus is made from a blend of Grenache and Rolle grapes, which are carefully selected from the estate's oldest vines. The grapes are harvested by hand and undergo a rigorous sorting process to ensure only the highest quality fruit is used.

The production of Garrus is a labor-intensive process that involves a combination of traditional and modern winemaking techniques. The grapes are gently pressed to extract the juice, which is then fermented in stainless steel tanks at low temperatures to preserve the delicate aromas and flavors. The wine is then aged in oak barrels for several months to add complexity and depth.

The resulting wine is a pale pink color with a delicate aroma of white flowers, citrus, and red berries. On the palate, Garrus is elegant and refined, with a silky texture and a long, lingering finish. It is a wine that can be enjoyed on its own or paired with a wide range of dishes, from seafood to grilled meats.

Château d'Esclans is committed to producing wines of the highest quality, and Garrus is a testament to their dedication to excellence. It is a wine that has earned numerous accolades and awards, including a 98-point rating from wine critic Robert Parker. If you are looking for a premium rosé that is sure to impress, look no further than Garrus from Château d'Esclans.

When tasted, the Garrus cuvée has a very pale pink color. The nose seduces with its scents of hawthorn, white flowers and very subtle toasted notes. The Garrus cuvée from Château d'Esclans was produced in 2006 for the first time. The grapes come from old vines over 80 years old, located on top quality plots.
Considered one of the best, even the best rosé wine in the world, Garrus is an exceptional rosé wine for great gastronomy. It comes from an 80-year-old vine planted at the top of a hill in Provence. Garrus 2017 offers a salmon pink color with pale reflections, a complex nose of aromas of hawthorn and white flowers with very subtle toasted notes. The palate is above all marked by great suavity and the texture is of great finesse and great softness which gives tremendous length to this extraordinary rosé. The finish recalls the nose with its notes of white flowers.
Only the best quality fruit is selected in the production of Garrus, from the top parcels of 80 year old Grenache as well as some Rolle, or Vermentino as it is known in Italy. Unlike most rosé, it is a wine designed to age. The wine is barrel fermented and then aged for ten months in barrel on the lees.“This is a spherical wine with a gossamer sheen. This will be a typically long-lived Garrus, and it will show a more fluid and lively side to this label’s character than we have seen before, but don’t, for a second take your eye off this wine because it will bite. There is a rapier-sharp acidity here which is every bit as combative as in years gone by and, dare I say it, it seems even more finessed in this department than in any previous vintage. This is a fascinating wine and one which I anticipate will prove even more successful to newcomers to Esclans than its preceding vintage, simply because the fruit is so damned stunning already.

Château d’Escalns lies in the centre of the Department of the Var, where the majority of Provence rosé is produced. The first traces of the château’s site date back to Gaullist times during which the location served as a lookout point to spot intruders coming by boat into the Gulf of Frejus. The property was bought by Sacha Lichine, son of famous Alexis Lichine who owned Château Prieuré Lichine in Margaux, in 2006 with the intention of making the world’s best rosé. Combined with the efforts of Patrick Leon, who was previously Managing Director of Mouton Rothschild, his wines have gone on to receive international acclaim.

Sacha felt that rosé had an opportunity to become more serious in addition to being served and consumed by a broader audience. Since then he has built a world class brand while providing a strong contribution to the unprecedented growth of the rosé category.

With 44 hectares under vine Esclans, is known for its old Grenache vines, some of which are as old as 90 years in the highest vineyards. In 2006, Château d’Esclans made a few barrels of rosé from an 80 year old vineyard and the flagship wine Garrus was born.
