Domaine d'Eugénie is a relatively young yet highly respected wine estate located in Vosne-Romanée, in the heart of Burgundy’s prestigious Côte de Nuits. The domaine was established in 2006 when François Pinault, a noted French billionaire and owner of Château Latour in Bordeaux, purchased the property formerly known as Domaine René Engel. The estate was renamed after Pinault's grandmother, Eugénie.

**Vineyards and Terroir:**
Domaine d'Eugénie consists of several esteemed vineyards, including prime parcels in some of Burgundy’s most celebrated appellations. This includes holdings in the Grand Crus of Echezeaux, Grands Echezeaux, and Clos de Vougeot. Additionally, the domaine owns vines in the Premier Cru and village sites within Vosne-Romanée. The vineyards are meticulously managed with a commitment to biodynamic practices, aiming to express the distinctive terroirs of each parcel.

**Winemaking Philosophy:**
The winemaking at Domaine d'Eugénie is overseen by winemaker Michel Mallard. The philosophy is centered around minimal intervention to ensure that the character of the terroir and the vintage are prominently expressed in the wines. This includes the use of indigenous yeasts for fermentation and a careful, judicious use of new French oak for aging, allowing the purity and finesse of the Pinot Noir to shine through.

**Wine Style and Characteristics:**
The wines of Domaine d'Eugénie are known for their elegance, precision, and depth. They are crafted to showcase the nuanced differences between the various vineyard sites, with a focus on clarity and purity of fruit. The red wines, made predominantly from Pinot Noir, are admired for their complex aromatics, silky tannins, and their ability to age gracefully. They often exhibit a balance of rich fruit, earthy undertones, and refined structure.

**Reputation and Recognition:**
Since its inception, Domaine d'Eugénie has rapidly gained a reputation for producing outstanding Burgundy wines, with particular praise for its Grand Cru and Premier Cru expressions. The domaine’s approach, combining meticulous vineyard management and restrained winemaking techniques, has positioned it as a noteworthy producer in the competitive arena of top-tier Burgundian wine.

Overall, Domaine d'Eugénie represents the fusion of traditional Burgundian values with a modern interpretation of viticulture and enology, consistently producing wines that resonate with both purists and modern wine enthusiasts.

Le Chardonnay est le raisin principal pour les vins blancs de Bourgogne, représentant 48 % des vignes et 68 % de la production. Le Chardonnay apprécie le sol marneux de la Bourgogne, qui lui confère des arômes floraux délicats, fruités et minéraux ainsi que des saveurs corsées. L'Aligoté est le deuxième raisin blanc, représentant 6 % cultivé. {En savoir plus sur le raisin ancien Aligoté en Bourgogne.}

Clos de Vougeot, also known as Clos Vougeot, is one of the most famous and emblematic vineyards in the Burgundy wine region of France, particularly within the Côte de Nuits area. This Grand Cru vineyard is steeped in history, with origins dating back to the 12th century when Cistercian monks first began cultivating grapes here.

**Location and Terroir:**
Clos de Vougeot is located in the village of Vougeot, between the towns of Chambolle-Musigny and Vosne-Romanée. The vineyard covers approximately 50 hectares (about 124 acres), making it the largest single vineyard in Côte de Nuits designated as Grand Cru. The terroir varies significantly across the vineyard due to its size and slight variations in slope and aspect, which results in a range of wine styles from the various producers who own parcels here.

The soil in Clos de Vougeot is predominantly limestone mixed with marl, lending a distinct mineral quality to the wines. The best plots are generally considered to be those located higher up on the slope, where the soil is thinner and the limestone bedrock is closer to the surface.

**Wine Characteristics:**
Clos de Vougeot is exclusively red wine, made from Pinot Noir. The wines from this Grand Cru are known for their robust structure, deep complexity, and potential for aging. They typically exhibit flavors of red and black cherries, earth, and spices, with a firm tannic backbone and high acidity that can evolve gracefully over many years.

**Viticulture and Winemaking:**
Over 80 different owners hold parcels within Clos de Vougeot, leading to considerable diversity in winemaking approaches. Traditional methods, such as hand harvesting, natural fermentations, and aging in French oak barrels, are common, although specifics such as the proportion of new oak and the duration of aging vary by producer.

**Historical Significance:**
The iconic Château de Clos de Vougeot, situated within the vineyard, houses the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin, an influential wine society dedicated to promoting Burgundy. The château and its walls, which still enclose the vineyard, were built by the Cistercian monks and are a landmark of Burgundy's winemaking heritage.

**Modern Recognition:**
Despite the variability in style due to the different winemaking techniques and precise plot locations, Clos de Vougeot maintains a reputation as one of Burgundy's most prestigious and sought-after wines. It embodies the complexity and elegance that Burgundy wines are renowned for and continues to be a cornerstone of the region’s viticultural identity.
