Domaine du Paternel is a wine producer based in Cassis, a small coastal appellation in Provence. The domaine focuses on white and rosé wines, drawing from vineyards in both the Cassis and Côtes de Provence appellations. Their production centers on expressing the characteristics of these Provençal terroirs through traditional winemaking.
Cassis, despite its association with the blackcurrant liqueur of the same name, is actually one of France's oldest white wine appellations. The region's proximity to the Mediterranean and its limestone-rich soils create conditions suited to crisp, mineral white wines. The appellation permits a range of white grape varieties, many of which appear in Domaine du Paternel's portfolio, including Marsanne, Clairette, Bourboulenc, and Ugni Blanc. The domaine's rosés, made primarily from Grenache and Cinsault, reflect the broader Provençal style of dry, pale wines with fresh acidity.
The domaine's current range includes blanc de blancs cuvées from Cassis that blend multiple white varieties, as well as rosés from both Cassis and the broader Côtes de Provence appellation. Their white wines incorporate combinations of Sauvignon Blanc, Marsanne, Clairette, and other regional varieties, while their rosés draw on traditional Provençal red grape selections. This range demonstrates engagement with both the specific character of Cassis and the wider Provence wine region.
