Contratto

Contratto is a producer based in Canelli, in the Piedmont region of northwestern Italy. The house has a long history in the Italian vermouth and sparkling wine tradition, and today produces a range of aperitif liqueurs alongside its other offerings. Piedmont's position as a center of Italian vermouth and aromatized wine production dates to the late eighteenth century, when the region's abundance of local botanicals, Alpine herbs, and access to neutral grape spirit made it a natural home for these styles.

The Contratto Liqueur Apéritif belongs to the broader Italian aperitivo tradition, which draws on bitter roots, citrus peel, and aromatic herbs macerated in alcohol to create a bittersweet, botanically complex drink. Piedmont in particular has long been associated with this style, producing some of Italy's most established vermouth and bitter liqueur houses. These products are typically served over ice, with soda water, or as a component in classic cocktails, and tend to balance sweetness with a pronounced bitter finish derived from gentian, cinchona, or similar botanical ingredients.
