Bonacchi is an Italian wine producer based in Tuscany, working within the Brunello di Montalcino DOCG appellation. Brunello di Montalcino is one of Italy's most rigorously defined wine zones, situated in the southern part of the province of Siena around the hill town of Montalcino. The denomination requires wines to be produced exclusively from Sangiovese — locally referred to as Brunello — and imposes among the longest mandatory aging requirements of any Italian appellation.
Brunello di Montalcino DOCG wines are typically full-bodied and structured, with high acidity and firm tannins that allow for extended cellaring. The Riserva designation requires additional aging beyond the standard release, resulting in wines with greater complexity and depth. The Sangiovese grape in this part of Tuscany tends to express notes of dried cherry, leather, tobacco, and earthy minerality, with the specific character of a given wine shaped by the vineyard's altitude, aspect, and soil composition within the Montalcino zone.
Bonacchi's current range includes a Brunello di Montalcino Riserva from the 2017 vintage, a year that produced concentrated, well-structured wines in the appellation following a warm and dry growing season. The Riserva classification indicates extended time in both barrel and bottle before release, placing this wine among the more age-worthy expressions the denomination offers.
