St Tamas is a Hungarian wine producer based in the Tokaji region, one of the world's most historically significant sweet wine areas located in northeastern Hungary. The Tokaji region sits along the foothills of the Zemplén Mountains, where the Bodrog and Tisza rivers create ideal microclimatic conditions for both dry and dessert wine production.
The Tokaji region is renowned for its volcanic soils and unique terroir that has supported viticulture for over a thousand years. While the area gained international fame for its botrytis-affected dessert wines, many producers also craft exceptional dry wines from indigenous Hungarian grape varieties. The region's principal grape is Furmint, which thrives in the area's volcanic terroir and continental climate, producing wines with distinctive minerality and aging potential.
St Tamas works with traditional Tokaji grape varieties, particularly focusing on Furmint-based wines. Their current range includes dry expressions that showcase the varietal character of Furmint, demonstrating the versatility of this indigenous Hungarian grape beyond the region's famous sweet wine tradition.
