Paul Pernot

Paul Pernot is a domaine based in Puligny-Montrachet, in the Côte de Beaune section of Burgundy. The family has farmed vines in this village for several generations and holds holdings across a range of appellations, from village-level Puligny-Montrachet to some of the most coveted grand cru vineyards on the Côte d'Or. Their production is focused exclusively on white wines made from Chardonnay.

Bâtard-Montrachet is a grand cru vineyard shared between the communes of Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet, sitting directly below the celebrated Le Montrachet itself. The vineyard's relatively deep, clay-rich soils over limestone bedrock produce wines with considerable body and richness compared to some of the lighter, more mineral expressions from higher on the slope. Bâtard-Montrachet typically yields Chardonnay of pronounced texture, generous fruit, and strong aging potential, often requiring several years of cellaring before reaching full expression.

Paul Pernot's Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru is vinified in the traditional Burgundian manner, with barrel aging playing a role in developing the wine's structure and complexity. The 2022 vintage in Burgundy was marked by warm, dry conditions that produced ripe, concentrated fruit with naturally high sugars and relatively low acidity, resulting in wines of notable weight and richness across the appellation.
