Tasting notes
The year 2015 was marked by an irregular climate with significant temperature swings and unpredictable weather patterns. Despite this uncertainty, Gaja harnessed the environment’s innate challenges to accentuate the treasured complexities of their vineyard's terroir within each bottle. Vibrant sunshine flooded the vineyards leading up to harvest, encouraging grape maturity and concentrating flavours in each Nebbiolo cluster, giving the 2015 Costa Russi an expressive richness that lingers on the palate of red fruits and delicate floral notes with undertones of minerality.

About this wine
Gaja is a renowned Italian wine producer that has been making exceptional wines for over 150 years. The Costa Russi is one of their most sought-after wines, and it is made in the Barbaresco region of Piedmont.
The Barbaresco region is known for producing some of the finest wines in Italy, and the Costa Russi is no exception. This wine is made from 100% Nebbiolo grapes, which are grown in the vineyards surrounding the village of Barbaresco. The grapes are carefully selected and hand-harvested to ensure only the best fruit is used in the wine.
The production of the Costa Russi is a labor-intensive process that involves a long maceration period and aging in oak barrels. The wine is aged for 12 months in barriques, followed by 12 months in large oak casks. This extended aging process gives the wine its complex and elegant character.
The Costa Russi is a full-bodied wine with a deep ruby color and aromas of black cherry, licorice, and tobacco. On the palate, the wine is rich and velvety, with flavors of dark fruit, spice, and a hint of vanilla. The tannins are firm but well-integrated, giving the wine a long and satisfying finish.
Overall, the Costa Russi is a wine of exceptional quality and complexity. It is a testament to the skill and dedication of the Gaja family, who have been producing some of Italy's finest wines for generations.
If you're looking for a truly special wine experience, the Costa Russi is an excellent choice. With its complex flavors and long finish, it is sure to be a hit at any gathering.
