L'Héritier-Guyot is a French producer based in Dijon, in the Burgundy region, specialising in crème de cassis. The house has a long association with this style of liqueur, which has its roots in the Côte-d'Or and the broader Dijon area, where blackcurrant cultivation became intertwined with local food and drink traditions over many generations.
Crème de cassis de Dijon is a blackcurrant liqueur made by macerating blackcurrants in neutral spirit and blending with sugar. The "de Dijon" designation carries geographic significance, as Dijon has historically been the centre of cassis production in France. The liqueur is characterised by an intense blackcurrant flavour, deep purple colour, and a sweetness balanced by the natural tartness of the fruit. It is perhaps best known as the base ingredient of Kir, the aperitif made by adding it to white Burgundy, and Kir Royale when combined with sparkling wine.
L'Héritier-Guyot's Crème de Cassis de Dijon represents this classic style, produced in the region where the tradition originated and where blackcurrant quality and production methods have been refined over time.
