Haku

Haku is a Japanese vodka produced by Suntory, one of Japan's most established distilling companies. The spirit is made using 100% Japanese white rice as its base ingredient, which distinguishes it from the majority of vodkas produced elsewhere, which typically use grains such as wheat or rye, or neutral spirit derived from other agricultural sources.

The production process involves fermenting and distilling the rice before filtering the vodka through bamboo charcoal, a traditional Japanese purification method. This combination of rice and bamboo charcoal filtration gives Haku a noticeably soft, slightly sweet character on the palate, with a gentle roundness that reflects the qualities associated with rice-based spirits in Japanese craftsmanship. The name "Haku" means "white" in Japanese, a reference to the white rice at the heart of the recipe.
