Villa Sparina is an estate located in the Monferrato hills of southeastern Piedmont, within the Gavi DOCG appellation. The property centers on the village of Monterotondo, in the commune of Gavi, and has long been one of the more established names associated with this corner of Piedmont.
Gavi DOCG is built exclusively on the Cortese grape, a thin-skinned white variety that thrives on the calcareous, clay-rich soils of the area. Wines from the appellation are typically dry, with relatively high natural acidity, restrained aromatics, and flavors leaning toward green apple, citrus, and almond. The style is generally crisp and food-friendly rather than overtly aromatic or oak-driven, making Gavi a natural pairing for seafood, risotto, and lighter dishes of the Ligurian and Piedmontese kitchen.
Villa Sparina's Gavi DOCG is made from Cortese and represents the straightforward expression of the appellation — a white wine focused on freshness and mineral character. The estate also produces other wines under the broader Monferrato denomination, though their Gavi remains their most closely identified bottling.
