Standish

Standish is a small Barossa Valley wine producer focused exclusively on Shiraz. The project is associated with winemaker Dan Standish, who has worked in the Barossa for a number of years and sources fruit from old-vine parcels across the valley and its surrounding sub-regions, including Eden Valley.

The Barossa Valley is one of Australia's most established Shiraz regions, known for its warm, dry continental climate and ancient soils that support some of the oldest surviving Shiraz vines in the world. Eden Valley, which sits at higher elevation to the east of the valley floor, produces a cooler-climate expression of Shiraz — typically more restrained and aromatic than the fuller-bodied styles associated with the lower Barossa floor. Standish's wines are generally regarded as being crafted with a focus on site expression and restraint rather than overt ripeness or extraction.

The Lamella is one of Standish's single-vineyard or single-site bottlings, drawing fruit from Eden Valley. As is characteristic of the producer's approach, it aims to reflect the specific character of its source rather than a generalised Barossa style, making it a useful reference point for understanding how Shiraz performs under the influence of elevation and cooler growing conditions within the broader Barossa wine zone.
