The 2018 El Puntido is lighter and fresher, with very fine tannins. The wine is in the process of being integrated after spending 16 months in brand-new French oak barrels and resting in tank for six months before bottling. These are powerful and concentrated wines, but in 2018 they are a little lighter.
Sourced from the vineyard that surrounds the winery in the village of Páganos, the 2014 El Puntido is pure Tempranillo aged in brand new French barriques for 16 months. You notice the difference in soils and altitude, and there's always some extra freshness here. It has aromas of fine woods and exotic spices, faintly balsamic and smoky. They also had to sort and declassify grapes to achieve the quality they are looking for. The palate shows the fine, chalky tannins and the lively acidity that should help it in its journey in bottle.

Winery founded in 1998 by the Eguren Family (Sierra Cantabria, Señorío de San Vicente, Viñedos de Páganos, Teso la Monja, Dominio de Eguren) in the Álava town of Páganos. The winery is sculpted under the cold rock, in the very bowels of the vineyard, with the aim of producing great wines that represent their own characteristics and personality that determines the union of climate, soil and vineyard varieties. The winery shares space with the exceptional El Puntido vineyard, an old word meaning a landing, similar to the terrace that it forms between the Sierra de Cantabria and the Ebro river depression. The area is under the influence of an Atlantic climate with nuances from Continental, sheltered from the cold north winds thanks to the Sierra de Cantabria.
