Dingac

Dingac is Croatia's most celebrated wine region, located on the steep southern slopes of the Pelješac Peninsula in Dalmatia. This narrow strip of vineyards faces the Adriatic Sea and is recognized as Croatia's first protected designation of origin, established specifically for red wine production from the Plavac Mali grape variety. The region's dramatic topography consists of terraced vineyards carved into limestone cliffs that rise directly from the coastline.

The Mediterranean climate provides abundant sunshine and minimal rainfall during the growing season, while strong winds from the sea help moderate temperatures and reduce disease pressure. The steep, south-facing slopes maximize sun exposure, and the limestone-rich soils with red clay deposits create ideal drainage conditions. The proximity to the Adriatic Sea creates a unique microclimate where reflected sunlight from the water intensifies heat accumulation in the vineyards.

Dingac is traditionally devoted to Plavac Mali, a native Croatian red grape variety that produces full-bodied, high-alcohol wines with intense color and robust tannins. The extreme vineyard conditions and low yields result in concentrated wines that can age for decades. While Plavac Mali remains the signature variety, some producers have begun experimenting with international grape varieties, adapting winemaking techniques to suit the region's distinctive terroir and climate conditions.
