Sancerre sits on the left bank of the Loire River, where vineyards are planted on diverse soil types including limestone, clay, and silex (flint). The silex soils, composed of fossilized shells and flint stones, are particularly prized for producing Sauvignon Blanc wines with distinctive mineral character and pronounced acidity.
