Château Le Tertre-Roteboeuf

Château Le Tertre-Roteboeuf is a small wine estate located in Saint-Émilion, on the Right Bank of Bordeaux. The property sits on the southeastern slope of the Saint-Émilion plateau, near the village of Saint-Laurent-des-Combes. It has been managed by François Mitjavile, who built a reputation for meticulous viticulture and late harvesting, often picking among the last in the appellation to achieve full physiological ripeness.

Saint-Émilion is one of Bordeaux's most significant appellations, producing red wines primarily from Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The limestone plateau and clay-limestone soils of the area tend to produce wines with structure, depth, and an ability to age. Tertre-Roteboeuf, despite not holding official Grand Cru Classé status for much of its modern history, developed a following for wines of considerable concentration and character, reflecting Mitjavile's philosophy of patience in the vineyard and minimal intervention in the cellar.

The estate works predominantly with Merlot alongside Cabernet Franc, the classic Right Bank combination. The 2014 vintage was a year that rewarded disciplined producers, as careful selection and timing were essential to navigate uneven ripening. Wines from this vintage in Saint-Émilion tend to show freshness alongside ripe fruit, with good structural definition suited to medium- to long-term cellaring.
