Onshore Cellars is proud to offer a wide selection of wines from the renowned wine producer, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. This esteemed winery is located in the Burgundy region of France, specifically in the village of Vosne-Romanée. Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, also known as DRC, is considered one of the most prestigious and sought-after producers in the world.
The history of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti dates back to the 13th century, when the monks of the Abbey of Saint-Vivant de Vergy first planted vines in the area. In 1631, the land was purchased by the de Croonembourg family, and in 1760, it was acquired by the Prince de Conti, who gave the vineyard its current name. It wasn't until the 19th century, when the vineyard was purchased by the de Villaine family, that DRC truly began to thrive.
Today, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti is owned by the de Villaine and Leroy families, with Aubert de Villaine as the co-director and winemaker. The winery produces a range of red and white wines, with a total annual production of only around 6,000 cases. This low production is due to the small size of the vineyard, which spans just 25 hectares and is divided into several distinct plots, each with its own unique terroir.
One of the most famous wines from DRC is the Romanée-Conti, which is considered by many to be the finest wine in the world. This single-vineyard wine is made from Pinot Noir grapes and is known for its complexity, elegance, and aging potential. Other notable wines from DRC include La Tâche, Richebourg, Échezeaux, and Grands Échezeaux.
