Antica Formula

Antica Formula is the name given to a style of vermouth produced by Carpano, a historic Italian vermouth house based in Turin, in the Piedmont region. Carpano is credited with originating the category of vermouth in the late eighteenth century, and Antica Formula represents their premium expression, made according to a recipe drawn from that early tradition. It is bottled at a higher strength than many modern vermouths and presented in a distinctive tall, cork-stoppered bottle.

Antica Formula is a sweet red vermouth, rich and complex in character, built on a base of Italian wine fortified with neutral spirit and infused with a proprietary blend of botanical ingredients including vanilla, which gives it a notably warm, rounded profile. The style sits closer to the older, more intensely flavoured tradition of Turin vermouth than to lighter contemporary expressions. It is commonly used in classic cocktails such as the Negroni and Manhattan, though it is also consumed neat or over ice in the Italian fashion.
