This wine is powerful and deep but at the same time refined and soft, characterized by spices and sandalwood that give complexity and breadth to the aromas of ripe red fruits in compote. Elements of candied violet, licorice and sweet pipe tobacco linger pleasantly on the bold vertical spine with good freshness. A generous wine but also a marathon runner who was born to age very well, with its rich and hedonistic texture, ample and full of energy with nuances of dried orange to give further finesse even in the austere almost masculine traits.

Italy's most ancient wine region, Tuscany may not be a heavyweight in terms of quantity, but as the home of two of the country's most famous fine wines – Chianti and Brunello di Montalcino – it certainly holds its own in terms of quality. Tuscany's climate ranges from Mediterranean on the coast to continental deep in the Apennines. More than two thirds of the province is covered with hills, an important terroir factor in its fine wines.
