Offering up complex aromas of crisp yellow orchard fruit, confit citrus, frangipane, walnuts, dried white flowers and subtle hints of iodine, Bollinger's 2014 Brut La Grande Année is medium to full-bodied, pillowy and vinous, with an elegantly fleshy core of fruit that's underpinned by racy acids and complemented by a pretty pinpoint mousse. Concluding with a long, chalky finish, this is a charming but precise Grande Année that's more giving and demonstrative than its immediate predecessor, the 2012, but which attains a very similar level of quality in a more challenging vintage—testimony to the serious viticulture that underpins Bollinger's contemporary excellence.
The delicate colour and golden hues are a sign of the wine’s maturity and Bollinger’s wine-making methods. A first impression of fresh almonds, then yellow-flesh fruit aromas evoking peach and mango; toasted, roasted notes accompanied with dried citrus and pink grapefruit. A lovely aromatic fullness with honey flavours and a smooth chalky texture; candied lemon notes and a delicious bitterness, a wonderfully refreshing finish.Pairing Foie gras, fresh or pan-fried Grilled fish, with or without sauce, lobster Roast lamb or veal Parmesan or Comté

Founded by Paul Renaudin and Joseph Bollinger and now managed by Jérôme Philipon, the famous Champagne house of Bollinger has been producing masculine champagnes with body, depth and power for centuries.

Over the years the vineyard holdings have been steadily increased with the largest expansion taking place under the management of the legendary Madame Lily Bollinger. She ran the company between 1941 and 1977 and was best remembered for her statement -

"I drink champagne when I’m happy and when I’m sad. Sometimes I drink it when I’m alone. When I have company I consider it obligatory. I trifle with it if I’m not hungry and drink it when I am. Otherwise, I never touch it -- unless I’m thirsty."

In 1668, Dom Pérignon is said to have discovered how to make sparkling wine; today his technique is used the world over, although Champagne continues to make some of the finest. France’s most northerly wine region, Champagne is now home to 15,000 growers and 290 ‘houses’. A blend of grape varieties is usually required: white Chardonnay to add fruit and elegance, and two reds – Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier – to provide body and backbone.
