Wine Delivery to Riviera Marinas: A Port Guide

In breve

The practical points of delivering wine and spirits to yachts at the main Riviera ports, from Monaco to Saint-Tropez, with lead times and a dockside checklist.

The French Riviera has some of the busiest superyacht berths in the Mediterranean, and each marina has its own character, its own access rules and its own pressure points in the season. A delivery that is simple to Antibes in October can be a careful operation to Monaco in September or to Saint-Tropez in August. This guide goes through the main ports from Menton to the Gulf of Saint-Tropez, with the practical points a chief stewardess or captain needs to plan a wine and spirits delivery.

How we deliver on the Riviera

We are based in Antibes and deliver on the coast with our own vans. For Nice, Antibes, Cannes and Monaco that means the same day, and for Saint-Tropez the same or the next day. Because we run our own transport, we control the temperature of the wine from the cellar to the berth, which matters far more on a hot quay than most people realise, and we can time a run to the access window you have been given. You can order online, build a quote in the browser, email us, or send us your list and we will build the quote for you. The overview is on our yacht wine supplier page.

Monaco

Port Hercule and Port de Fontvieille are the two berths we supply. Monaco is a separate state, but for VAT it sits with France, so a delivery is treated as a French one. Same day delivery is normal, with the exception of Grand Prix and Yacht Show weeks, which we plan ahead, because access and traffic are tightly controlled. For September, read our guide to planning wine for yacht show week. Nearby, we also supply Menton and Cap Martin and Villefranche and Beaulieu. Full details are on the Monaco page, and events and hospitality are covered on the page for events in Monaco.

Nice and Villefranche

Port de Nice is a short run from our base and a same day delivery. Villefranche-sur-Mer and Beaulieu are known as anchorages and for yachts that prefer a quieter stop, and we deliver there too, with the Nice page and the Saint-Laurent-du-Var page covering the neighbouring berths.

Antibes and Juan-les-Pins

Antibes is our home port, and we are minutes from Port Vauban, where the largest yachts on the coast lie. We also deliver to Port Gallice at Juan-les-Pins. Same day delivery is standard, which makes Antibes the easiest place on the coast to correct a forgotten bottle, and the reason many yachts choose to restock here before leaving. See the Antibes page. Golfe-Juan is next door; the Golfe-Juan page has the berths.

Cannes and Mandelieu

We supply the Vieux Port and Port Pierre Canto in Cannes on the same day. During the film festival, the Cannes Yachting Festival and other peak weeks the town is busy, so access windows matter. The Cannes page and the page for Mandelieu-la-Napoule are the places to start, and the page on events in Cannes covers hospitality for the festivals.

Saint-Tropez and the Gulf

The Port de Saint-Tropez is the most photographed berth on the coast and one of the hardest to reach by road in high summer. We deliver the same or the next day from Antibes, and we plan the run around the traffic. If you are anchored in the bay, tell us where your tender will collect. Neighbouring supply is covered for Port Grimaud, Cogolin and Sainte-Maxime, Fréjus and Saint-Raphaël and Hyères and Porquerolles. The main page is Saint-Tropez.

Beyond the coast

West of Saint-Tropez we supply Toulon, La Ciotat and Marseille, and further afield Corsica, Genoa and Porto Cervo. Lead times lengthen with distance, and our guide to superyacht wine provisioning in the Mediterranean covers the wider picture.

Peak weeks and quiet weeks

Traffic and access are the real variables on this coast. High summer, the spring festivals, the September yacht shows and the Christmas and New Year period all put pressure on roads and quays, and the same delivery that takes an hour in February can take much longer in August. If your charter falls in a peak week, order earlier, agree a delivery window with the marina, and allow for the van to wait at the gate. In the quieter months the coast is easy, and it is a good time to restock the cellar, rotate stock and plan the next season. Tell us the dates and the port and we will say honestly what is realistic.

What we need to deliver to a berth

  • The vessel name and the port, with the berth or pontoon number.
  • The date and a delivery window that suits the port's access rules.
  • The name and mobile number of the person who will receive the goods.
  • Any gate pass, accreditation or agent instructions the marina requires.
  • Whether the yacht is on a commercial charter, in refit or privately used, since this affects the tax treatment (see our guide to VAT and duty).

Tips for a smooth dockside delivery

  • Tell the marina office and security in advance.
  • Send a crew member to the gate, since a van cannot always find the pontoon alone.
  • Have a trolley, a cool room and ice ready at the passerelle.
  • Check the order on delivery, as described in our provisioning timeline.
  • Avoid the middle of the day in July and August, when the quay is hottest and busiest.
