Pierre Ferrand is a Cognac-based producer operating out of the Charente region of France. While the house has roots in Cognac production, they have also developed a line of bartender-focused spirits, most notably their Dry Curaçao, which has become a standard reference product in professional cocktail circles.
Their Dry Curaçao is a triple sec-style orange liqueur developed in collaboration with cocktail historian David Wondrich, designed to replicate the style of 19th-century curaçao liqueurs that formed the backbone of classic cocktails. Unlike many modern triple secs, it incorporates a Cognac base alongside sun-dried bitter orange peels, resulting in a more complex, less sweetened profile with a lower sugar content and a drier finish. This makes it particularly well-suited to historically accurate preparations of drinks like the Margarita, Sidecar, and Corpse Reviver No. 2.
The product sits at the intersection of historical research and practical use behind the bar, reflecting a broader trend among craft spirits producers to revive pre-Prohibition liqueur styles that had largely disappeared from the market during the twentieth century.
