La Scolca

La Scolca is an Italian winery located in the Gavi DOCG zone of Piedmont, specializing exclusively in white wines made from the Cortese grape variety. The estate operates within one of Piedmont's most distinctive white wine appellations, focusing entirely on the production of Gavi di Gavi wines.

The Gavi DOCG appellation, established in the southeastern corner of Piedmont near the Ligurian border, is renowned for producing Italy's most celebrated expressions of Cortese. This indigenous grape variety thrives in the region's calcareous soils and continental climate, yielding wines characterized by bright acidity, mineral precision, and delicate citrus and stone fruit flavors. Gavi di Gavi represents the highest quality tier within the appellation, sourced from vineyards in the commune of Gavi itself.

La Scolca's current range demonstrates both traditional and aged expressions of Cortese, including their Black Label bottling and the D'Antan cuvée. The D'Antan represents an extended aging program that showcases Cortese's capacity for development, while their standard offerings highlight the grape's immediate freshness and mineral character typical of the Gavi zone.
