Tasting notes
The 2023 Pinot Noir Estate Vineyard comes from Calera and Swan vines planted in 2005. Grapes were harvested on September 14 and 22, and the wine was matured for 15 months in 37% new French oak. "For me, this is the wine of the vintage,” chief winemaker and proprietor Andy Smith says. “I first made this wine in 2007, and for me, this is unquestionably the best wine we’ve ever made from this vineyard.” The estate Pinot Noir is impressively pure and intense, with dramatically unfurling scents of pomegranate, blueberry, iron, juniper, charcuterie and violet. The medium-bodied palate offers expansive, kaleidoscopic flavors. It’s framed by refined, silky tannins and vibrant acidity and has a long, detailed finish. It should be long lived in the cellar. 1,200 cases were made.

About this wine
DuMOL Estate Vineyard Pinot Noir from Sonoma Coast represents a masterclass in cool-climate winemaking. This California red wine showcases the distinctive character of the Sonoma Coast appellation, where maritime influences and challenging terrain produce Pinot Noir of remarkable concentration and elegance. The estate's commitment to quality viticulture and restrained winemaking allows the terroir to express itself through vibrant acidity and layered complexity.
This medium-bodied Pinot Noir displays the spicy, earthy character typical of premium Sonoma Coast examples, with violet aromatics and a precise structure that rewards careful cellaring. The 13.5% ABV reflects the balanced ripeness achievable in this coastal region. DuMOL's philosophy emphasizes sustainable practices and minimal intervention, allowing the natural expression of the vineyard to shine through in every bottle.
Versatile at the table, this wine pairs beautifully with duck, lamb, and beef preparations, while its earthy undertones complement mushroom and truffle-based dishes. It's equally at home with charcuterie and cured meats, or alongside creamy cheeses like Camembert and blue cheese. An ideal selection for discerning cellars and fine dining establishments seeking California Pinot Noir of depth and refinement.
