Lagavulin

Lagavulin is a single malt Scotch whisky distillery located on the southern coast of Islay, one of Scotland's Inner Hebridean islands. The distillery produces exclusively single malt whisky, drawing water from the Solan Lochs and using malted barley dried over peat fires, which imparts the characteristic smoky flavor associated with Islay whiskies.

Islay is renowned for producing some of Scotland's most intensely peated and maritime-influenced whiskies. The island's whiskies typically exhibit pronounced smoky, medicinal, and seaweed characteristics derived from the peat used in the malting process and the coastal environment. Lagavulin's whiskies exemplify this Islay style, known for their robust, smoky character balanced with underlying sweetness and complexity that develops through extended maturation in oak casks.

The distillery's core expression is the 16-year-old single malt, which has become a benchmark for heavily peated Islay whisky. They also produce an 8-year-old expression, offering a younger interpretation of their house style with more direct peat smoke influence and less oak integration than the flagship 16-year bottling.
