Jean Macle

Jean Macle is a domaine based in Château-Chalon, in the Jura region of eastern France, operating within the Côtes du Jura appellation. The estate is one of the most respected names in the Jura, particularly associated with the traditional winemaking practices that define this part of France. The domaine produces white wines, and has long been connected to the oxidative style for which the Jura is internationally recognized.

The Côtes du Jura appellation covers a broad stretch of the Jura's vineyard area along the western foothills of the Jura mountains. The region is best known for wines made from Savagnin, Chardonnay, and Poulsard, with Savagnin being the grape most associated with the vin jaune style — wines aged under a film of yeast called voile in old barrels, producing the oxidative, nutty, complex character that sets Jura whites apart from those of any other French region.
