Sporting a deep garnet-purple color, the 2016 Angélus erupts from the glass with powerful notes of blackberry pie, ripe black cherries and juicy black plums with an undercurrent of star anise, rose petals, chocolate mint, pencil shavings and woodsmoke plus a waft of allspice. The palate is pure decadence. Medium to full-bodied, rich and generously fruited, this wine is by no means heavy, it positively glimmers with freshness and vivacity, lending an ethereal nature to all that richness and power, beautifully framed by velvety tannins and finishing with epic length. The generosity, layers and plushness make for an absolutely DELICIOUS drink right now
Château Angélus is a renowned wine producer located in the Saint-Émilion appellation of Bordeaux, France. The history of the estate dates back to the 18th century when it was owned by the de Boüard de Laforest family. The name "Angélus" is said to have been inspired by the sound of the Angelus bells ringing from the nearby church.
The vineyards of Château Angélus cover approximately 39 hectares and are planted with a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. The estate is known for its commitment to sustainable viticulture practices, including the use of cover crops and natural fertilizers.
The winemaking process at Château Angélus is a combination of traditional and modern techniques. The grapes are hand-harvested and sorted before being fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The wine is then aged in oak barrels, with a portion of new oak each year, for up to 18 months.
The resulting wine is a rich and complex blend of dark fruit flavors, with notes of spice, tobacco, and earth. Château Angélus is known for producing wines that are both powerful and elegant, with a long aging potential.
In addition to its flagship wine, Château Angélus also produces a second wine called Carillon d'Angélus. This wine is made from younger vines and is aged for a shorter period of time, resulting in a more approachable and affordable wine.
Overall, Château Angélus is a producer that is highly regarded in the world of wine. Its commitment to quality and sustainability, combined with its rich history and traditional winemaking techniques, make it a top choice for wine enthusiasts around the globe.
