Siro Pacenti is a small family estate located in Montalcino, in the southern part of Tuscany, producing wine exclusively within the Brunello di Montalcino DOCG. The estate is considered one of the more serious addresses in the appellation, with Giancarlo Pacenti having taken over winemaking responsibilities from his father Siro and shaped the domaine's direction over recent decades. Their vineyards sit across multiple parcels in the Montalcino territory, giving them material from different soil types and exposures.
Brunello di Montalcino is made entirely from Sangiovese — known locally as Brunello — and is among Italy's most age-worthy red wines. The appellation's regulations require extended aging before release, including a minimum period in oak followed by bottle rest, resulting in wines that are typically firm in structure when young and capable of developing considerable complexity over time. Pacenti works with both younger and older vine material, and the estate is associated with wines that show depth and concentration alongside the grape's characteristic acidity and tannic backbone.
The PS Vecchie Vigne — "old vines" — is Pacenti's single-vineyard or select-parcel bottling, drawing on older vine Sangiovese to produce a wine of greater concentration and textural intensity compared to the estate's standard Brunello. The 2018 vintage in Montalcino was generally considered a strong year, benefiting from balanced growing conditions that favored both ripeness and freshness.
