The grapes for Terlan's Ikonen wine come from vineyards at an altitude of 300 to 550 metres with volcanic porphyry rock. Powerful, attractively exotic bouquet with bright gooseberries, mango and pink grapefruit, backed by a captivating mineral flavour. There are also lemongrass and herbal, ethereal notes. On the palate, it is juicy and full-bodied, but not overloaded, instead deeply spicy, and smoky, with a mineral-salty structure, followed by green-herbal notes in the focussed, mineral final. Every year, Quarz is one of the best Italian Sauvignon Blancs in its full splendour. As always, Cantina Terlano shows a skilful winemaker's hand in guiding the natural flavours of the grape, but also in delivering a very elegant interpretation.
Cantina Terlano's Quarz Sauvignon Blanc represents the pinnacle of Alto Adige white winemaking. Produced by Terlano-Kellerei, a cooperative renowned for its commitment to quality and terroir-driven expression, this wine showcases the distinctive characteristics of the Alpine foothills in northern Italy's Trentino Alto-Adige region. The cool climate and mineral-rich soils of Alto Adige DOC create ideal conditions for Sauvignon Blanc, resulting in a full-bodied white with vibrant citrus and tropical fruit notes layered with herbaceous and mineral complexity.
The winemaking philosophy at Terlano-Kellerei emphasizes precision and purity, allowing the Sauvignon Blanc grape to express its natural aromatic potential while maintaining elegant structure and refinement. This wine pairs beautifully with shellfish, crab, and lobster, making it an exceptional choice for seafood-focused menus. It also complements sushi, fish preparations, and mushroom-based dishes. The wine's spicy undertones and mineral backbone make it versatile with aromatic cuisine, from green vegetables and citrus-based dishes to chicken curry and fine cheeses like Parmesan and Comté.
