Cà dei Frati

Cà dei Frati is a family-run winery based on the southern shore of Lake Garda in Lombardy, operating within the Lugana DOC appellation. The estate has become one of the most closely associated names with this appellation, focusing its production on white wines drawn from the local Turbiana grape, known in this area as Trebbiano di Lugana.

Lugana DOC occupies a narrow strip of land straddling the border between Lombardy and Veneto, centred on glacially deposited clay-rich soils around the southern basin of Lake Garda. These heavy, mineral-laden soils give Turbiana wines a distinctive texture and structure unusual for Italian whites — often combining floral and stone-fruit aromatics with a firm, almost waxy body and good aging potential. The proximity of the lake moderates temperatures, extending the growing season and preserving acidity.

The flagship wine, I Frati, is the estate's benchmark Lugana DOC bottling and serves as a reliable reference point for the appellation's character — dry, textured, and expressive of its terroir without recourse to heavy winemaking intervention.
