The 2022 Domaine Jacques Prieur Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Combettes is a refined expression of Chardonnay from one of Burgundy’s most esteemed Premier Cru vineyards. This wine offers a luminous golden hue and a complex bouquet of white peach, apricot, and delicate floral notes, complemented by a subtle touch of gunflint. On the palate, it is exceptionally pure and precise, with a fresh, finely chiseled texture and flavors of citrus zest, green apple, and a hint of toasted almonds. The finish is long and mineral, with a savory salinity that enhances its elegance and aging potential.
It has a rip-roaring, vivacious, energetic bouquet that is surfeit with energy and frisson—so effervescent. The palate is well balanced with crisp acidity, very good weight in the mouth, fine tension with a precise and quite sustained finish, although it almost seems overshadowed by the aromatics at the moment.

Domaine Jacques Prieur is a Burgundy producer based in Gevrey-Chambertin, one of the region's most prestigious communes. The domaine produces Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines from vineyard holdings across the Côte d'Or, with a particular focus on premier and grand cru sites.

Gevrey-Chambertin and Puligny-Montrachet represent two of Burgundy's finest terroirs—the former renowned for structured, complex Pinot Noirs with mineral depth, the latter for refined and age-worthy white wines from Chardonnay. The French Wine region of Burgundy (aka “Bourgogne”) may be small in size, but its influence is huge in the world of vino. The complexity of Burgundy can cast fear into the heart of even a seasoned wine pro, but fear not – the region need only be as complicated as you want it to be. Yes, it is home to some of the most expensive wines in the known universe, but there are also tasty and affordable wines.

Main grapes:

Pinot Noir originated in Burgundy and these vines cover 34% of the region, accounting for 29% of overall wine production. The red grape does extremely well in limestone and clay soil, which helps create their complexity. Pinot Noir wines from Burgundy range in colour from cherry to brick, are light in body, and typically have red fruit and spicy flavours. Gamay is a red grape also grown in Burgundy, but only makes up 10% of the vines.

Chardonnay is the primary grape for white wines in Burgundy, making up 48% of the vines and 68% of production. Chardonnay appreciates Burgundy’s marl soil, which gives it delicate floral, fruit, and mineral aromas and full-bodied flavours. The region does produce a sparkling wine called Crémant de Bourgogne. It can be made from Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Aligoté, Gamay, Sacy, and Melon. Varieties include blanc, blanc de blancs, blanc de noirs, and rosé.

Located between Meursault to the north and Chassagne-Montrachet to the south, this small village sits on the limestone-rich slopes of the Côte d'Or escarpment. The appellation was established in 1937 and encompasses both village-level wines and premier cru vineyards, with the famous Le Montrachet grand cru vineyard straddling the border between Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet.

The terroir consists primarily of limestone and marl soils with excellent drainage and southeastern exposure that provides optimal sun exposure for ripening. Chardonnay is the sole permitted grape variety for white wine production in this appellation.
