Tasting notes

The seductive 1980 Maury Vintage features walnut-aged aromas but also plentiful cherry fruit, even after nearly 40 years of aging. It's fresher and more vibrant than the NV 40 Ans, if perhaps a touch less complex. Medium to full-bodied, it finishes silky and long.

About this wine

Mas Amiel is a legendary producer in the Maury appellation, located in the sun-drenched Languedoc-Roussillon region of southern France. The estate has crafted fortified wines of distinction for generations, combining traditional winemaking techniques with the unique terroir of this distinctive region. Their commitment to quality and innovation has established Mas Amiel as a benchmark producer for sweet, complex wines.

This wine is built on a foundation of Grenache, Macabeo, and Carignan, three classic varietals that thrive in Maury's warm climate and limestone-rich soils. The blend delivers a full-bodied, sweet expression with pronounced red fruit and nutty characteristics, elevated by a generous 16% alcohol content that adds warmth and richness to the profile. The result is a wine of depth and complexity, crafted to reward contemplation and cellar age.

Versatile at the table, this wine pairs beautifully with chocolate, blue cheese, nuts, caramel, and fresh berries, making it equally suited to sophisticated dessert courses or standalone sipping in a fine dining or private setting. Its richness and balance make it an excellent choice for those seeking a premium fortified wine with genuine character and provenance.
