Tasting notes

The 2024 Orballo is a varietal Albariño from vines in a two-hectare plot in Finca Vilachán (50 hectares), in the subzone of O Rosal. The 21-year-old vines grow on schist soils closer to the sea, giving a more marked salinity and minerality. It fermented in two 5,000-liter stainless steel tanks, where it was kept on its lees for six months, followed by six months in concrete eggs and a further six months in ceramic vessels. This is very different from the other Albariños; it has character that goes beyond the varietal profile, with an austere stoniness that is superb. It has 12.5% alcohol, with a pH of 3.21 and 7.5 grams of acidity, indicating contained ripeness and very good freshness. It is vibrant, sharp, and saline, with more edge.

About this wine

La Val's Orballo Albariño comes from Rias Baixas in Galicia, on Spain's cool Atlantic coast, where the grape reaches its most expressive form. Made entirely from Albariño, it reflects the granite soils and maritime climate of the region, delivering the variety's signature combination of freshness and texture.

Expect citrus and stone fruit notes, a saline edge and bright acidity that makes it a natural match for seafood. On board, pour it with shellfish, white fish, tapas or a light pasta dish. Serve well chilled at 8-10°C, ideally as an aperitif or alongside a seafood-driven lunch on deck.
