Rhone - White wine

Located in the southeastern region of France, the Rhone Valley is one of the oldest wine-producing regions in the world, with evidence of winemaking dating back to 600 BC. This historic region is renowned for its full-bodied, aromatic white wines that are made from a variety of grapes, including Viognier, Marsanne, and Roussanne.

One of the top producers of white wine in the Rhone Valley is the Domaine Georges Vernay. Established in 1937 by Georges Vernay, this family-owned winery is located in the northern part of the region, in the famous appellation of Condrieu. The winery is now run by Georges' grandson, Christine Vernay, who has continued the family's legacy of producing exceptional white wines.

Domaine Georges Vernay is known for its distinctive Viognier wines, which are considered some of the best in the world. Viognier is a difficult grape to grow, but the microclimate and terroir of the northern Rhone Valley provide the perfect conditions for it to thrive. The winery's Viognier has a rich and complex flavor profile, with notes of peach, apricot, and honey, and a delicate floral aroma.

In addition to Viognier, Domaine Georges Vernay also produces white wines from Marsanne and Roussanne grapes. These grapes are used to make the Condrieu appellation's signature blend, which is known for its full-bodied and luscious texture. The winery also produces a limited quantity of Condrieu from old-vine Marsanne, which is highly sought after by collectors.

Apart from its exceptional white wines, Domaine Georges Vernay is also known for its sustainable winemaking practices. The winery has been certified organic since 1997 and uses biodynamic techniques to cultivate its vineyards. This commitment to sustainability and quality is reflected in the taste of their wines, which have a distinct purity and freshness.
