Absolut

Absolut is a Swedish vodka producer based in Åhus, a small town in the Skåne region of southern Sweden. The brand has been produced at the same distillery in Åhus since its modern relaunch in 1979, and the vodka is made from winter wheat grown in the surrounding area. Water used in production is drawn from a local deep well, making the entire supply chain unusually localised for a spirit of its scale.

Absolut is distilled using a continuous distillation method, which involves repeated distillation to achieve a clean, neutral spirit. The core unflavoured expression is made without added sugar. Alongside it, the brand produces an extensive range of flavoured vodkas — including citrus, lime, and vanilla variants — in which natural flavourings are used. Absolut Elyx is a separate, single-estate expression distilled in a vintage copper column still from 1921, aimed at a more craft-oriented end of the vodka market and noted for its silkier texture compared to the standard range.

The flavoured expressions follow a consistent house approach: the base spirit remains the same across the range, with flavouring added rather than altering the distillation process itself. This makes the range accessible for cocktail use as well as sipping, and Citron in particular became closely associated with the vodka-based lemon drop cocktail during the 1990s.
