The history of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti can be traced back to the 13th century when the monks of the Abbey of Saint-Vivant de Vergy first planted vines in the region. However, it was not until the 19th century when the estate was purchased by the de Villaine and Leroy families that it gained its current name and reputation. Today, the estate is owned by the de Villaine family and is managed by Aubert de Villaine, who is widely regarded as one of the most influential winemakers in the world.
The Domaine is home to some of the most coveted vineyards in Burgundy, including the famous Grand Cru vineyard, Romanée-Conti, from which the estate takes its name. The vineyards are meticulously maintained and farmed using organic and biodynamic methods, with a focus on preserving the terroir and producing wines that truly reflect the unique characteristics of the land.
