This wine comes from young vines in the Bastonaca sector, in the southeastern part of the island, on the Vittoria plateau at 250 m above sea level in the province of Ragusa. The limestone-type soils, with silica and clay, the warm, dry and well-ventilated climate, characterized by strong thermal amplitudes between day and night, give the wine elegance and minerality, as well as excellent acidity levels and degrees. The Nero d'Avola grape variety is indigenous and present exclusively in Sicily. The estate has been working biodynamically for over 15 years.
Here's a wine I haven't tasted in a while. A pure expression of Nero d'Avola, aged simply in cement vats, the 2018 Nero di Lupo shows loads of varietal purity with summer dark cherry, tilled earth, fennel herb and that ever-present aroma that reminds me of Sicilian olive or caper. Like all the wines in the COS portfolio, this one shows extreme precision and fine focus. This vintage was not easy, with rain and cooler temperatures toward the end of the growing season, but this wolf still howls. Some 38,000 bottles were made.

Cos Viticoltori is a renowned wine producer located in the heart of Sicily, Italy. The winery was founded in 1980 by three friends who shared a passion for winemaking and a desire to showcase the unique terroir of the region. Today, Cos Viticoltori is known for producing some of the finest natural wines in Italy.

The winery's philosophy is rooted in the principles of biodynamic farming, which emphasizes the importance of working in harmony with nature. The vineyards are cultivated without the use of chemicals or synthetic fertilizers, and the grapes are harvested by hand to ensure the highest quality.

Cos Viticoltori produces a range of wines, including red, white, and rosé. The red wines are made from indigenous grape varieties such as Nero d'Avola and Frappato, and are known for their rich, complex flavors and aromas. The white wines are made from the local grape variety, Insolia, and are characterized by their crisp acidity and citrus notes. The rosé is made from a blend of Nero d'Avola and Frappato, and is a refreshing and fruity wine.

The winery's flagship wine is the Cerasuolo di Vittoria, a red wine made from a blend of Nero d'Avola and Frappato grapes. This wine is aged in oak barrels for 12 months, which gives it a rich, complex flavor profile with notes of dark fruit, spice, and vanilla.

Cos Viticoltori's commitment to quality and sustainability has earned them numerous accolades over the years. Their wines have been featured in top wine publications such as Wine Spectator and Decanter, and have won awards at prestigious wine competitions around the world.

Overall, Cos Viticoltori is a must-visit for anyone interested in natural wines and biodynamic farming. Their wines are a true reflection of the unique terroir of Sicily, and are sure to impress even the most discerning wine connoisseur.

Sicily is the largest island in the Mediterranean and has a long history of wine production dating back to ancient times. The island's warm climate and volcanic soil provide ideal conditions for growing a variety of grapes, including Nero d'Avola, Grillo, and Catarratto.

Sicilian wines are known for their bold, full-bodied flavors and high alcohol content. Red wines from the region are particularly popular, with Nero d'Avola being the most widely planted grape variety. These wines are characterized by their dark fruit flavors, such as black cherry and plum, and often have a spicy finish.

White wines from Sicily are also gaining popularity, with Grillo being the most commonly used grape variety. These wines are known for their crisp acidity and citrus flavors, such as lemon and grapefruit.

In addition to wine, Sicily is also known for its production of Marsala, a fortified wine made from a blend of white grapes. This wine is aged for a minimum of one year and has a rich, caramel-like flavor.

Overall, Sicily is a region with a rich history of wine production and a diverse range of styles to offer. Its wines are gaining recognition on the international stage and are definitely worth exploring.
