Bollinger is one of the most well-known and highly respected Champagne houses in the world. Located in the Champagne region of France, Bollinger has been producing exceptional wines since 1829. The house is known for its elegant and complex style, which is achieved through traditional winemaking techniques and a commitment to quality.
Bollinger is located in the village of Ay, in the heart of the Champagne region. This region is known for its cool climate and chalky soil, which provide ideal conditions for growing the three main grape varieties used in Champagne production: Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Pinot Meunier. The grapes are carefully selected from the best vineyards in the region to ensure the highest quality wines.
The Bollinger estate is comprised of 399 hectares of vineyards, with the majority of the grapes coming from their own vineyards. This allows the winemakers to have complete control over the quality of the grapes and the final product. Bollinger is also one of the few Champagne houses to still use traditional wooden barrels for aging their wines. This method imparts a unique depth and complexity to the wines, setting them apart from other Champagne producers.
One of the most distinctive features of Bollinger is their use of a high proportion of reserve wines in their blends. These reserve wines are aged in magnum bottles and are used to add depth and consistency to the non-vintage blends. It is this attention to detail and commitment to excellence that has earned Bollinger a reputation as one of the best Champagne producers in the world.
Bollinger produces a range of Champagnes, including their flagship wine, the Special Cuvée. This non-vintage blend is a combination of 60% Pinot Noir, 25% Chardonnay, and 15% Pinot Meunier. It is aged for a minimum of three years in the cellars before release, resulting in a full-bodied and complex Champagne
