The 2017 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru is also superb. Offering up a deep and complex bouquet of citrus oil, pear, oatmeal, beeswax and wheat toast, framed by a subtle touch of reduction, the wine is full-bodied, dense and multidimensional, with a racy spine of acidity underpinning its layered, muscular core, concluding with a long and vibrant finish. "It's a vintage adapted to this vineyard," observes Germain, and it's hard to dissent. From barrel, I thought the Chevalier had the edge, but from bottle, I'm inclined to favor the Bâtard. Readers should note that this cuvée derives from a different source from the Girardin wines of yesteryear.

Vincent Girardin is a renowned producer of fine wines and spirits, located in the Burgundy region of France. Founded in the late 19th century, the winery has been producing some of the finest wines in the region for over a century. The Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru is one of their most renowned wines, and is made from a blend of Chardonnay grapes grown in the Grand Cru vineyards of the Cote de Beaune.

The wine is aged for 12 months in oak barrels, giving it a complex and intense flavor. It has a golden yellow color, with aromas of ripe fruit, honey, and spices. On the palate, it is full-bodied and well-balanced, with a long finish. The wine has a great structure and complexity, and is a perfect accompaniment to a variety of dishes.

Vincent Girardin's Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru is a classic Burgundy wine, and is a great example of the region's terroir and winemaking traditions. It is a wine that will continue to improve with age, and is sure to be a favorite among wine connoisseurs. With its complex flavor profile and long finish, this is a wine that is sure to delight the senses.

The 2018 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru is fabulous, unwinding to reveal complex aromas of citrus oil, warm bread, frangipane, pear, white flowers and smoke. Full-bodied, satiny and layered, it's ample and muscular, with a seamless, elegant profile despite its scale, and lively girdling acids. Long and penetrating, it derives from an ideally located parcel.

It seems smooth and opulent initially, but then shows a structured side that brings out wood flavors, intense acidity and great depth. It's a powerful wine, very rich while keeping the freshness of the year and promising long-term aging.

Girardin's 2014 Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru has a crisp, chalky and focused bouquet that gradually opens in the glass. The palate is fresh and vibrant with a killer thread of acidity, impressive salinity and an intense, much more Bâtard-Montrachet-inspired finish that lingers long in the mouth. This did improve in the glass, gaining a little more precision although in tandem, the oak became a bit "loud-mouthed" on the finish.
The 2013 Bienvenue Bâtard Montrachet Grand Cru has a more expressive bouquet than Jean-Claude Bachelet's with greater delineation and poise, scents of orange sorbet and spice coming through with time. The palate is fresh on the entry, a powerful and flavour-rich Bienvenue with a citrus-fresh and quite spicy finish. While there might be a touch of botrytis here, it does not obscure precision and elevates this Grand Cru to a higher level.

His reds are of consistently high quality, with the emphasis being on purity of fruit and smooth, supple tannins. However, it is with whites that he really excels, producing a range of wines which are characterised by their depth of fruit and exquisite balance. These whites are extremely approachable when young but the top crus benefit from 4-5 years of bottle ageing.

The reds are made including stems where possible, if ripe and healthy enough, and minimal handling during cuvaison: no punching down at all. As with the whites there is little reliance on new wood.

Chardonnay is de belangrijkste druif voor witte wijnen in Bourgondië, goed voor 48% van de wijnstokken en 68% van de productie. Chardonnay houdt van de mergelbodem van Bourgondië, die zorgt voor delicate bloemen-, fruit- en mineraalaroma's en een volle smaak. Aligoté is de tweede witte druif, goed voor 6%. {Lees meer over de oude Aligoté druif in Bourgondië.}

Bâtard-Montrachet is a highly sought-after white wine produced in the Burgundy region of France. This wine is made from Chardonnay grapes grown in the vineyards surrounding the village of Puligny-Montrachet. The name Bâtard-Montrachet comes from the fact that the vineyards used to be owned by the Montrachet estate, but were later divided and sold off, resulting in the creation of several different vineyards, including Bâtard-Montrachet.

The history of Bâtard-Montrachet dates back to the Middle Ages, when the vineyards were first planted by monks. Over the centuries, the vineyards changed hands several times, and the wine became known for its exceptional quality. Today, Bâtard-Montrachet is considered one of the finest white wines in the world, and is highly prized by collectors and connoisseurs.

The style of production for Bâtard-Montrachet is very traditional, with the grapes being hand-harvested and carefully sorted before being pressed. The wine is then aged in oak barrels for up to 18 months, which gives it a rich, complex flavour and a deep golden colour. The wine is known for its intense aromas of honey, vanilla, and toasted almonds, as well as its full-bodied, creamy texture and long, lingering finish.

Bâtard-Montrachet is a wine that pairs well with a wide range of foods, including seafood, poultry, and creamy sauces. It is also a popular choice for special occasions, such as weddings and anniversaries, and is often given as a gift to mark important milestones.

Overall, Bâtard-Montrachet is a wine that embodies the rich history and tradition of the Burgundy region, and is a testament to the skill and dedication of the winemakers who produce it. Whether you are a seasoned wine connoisseur or a casual drinker, Bâtard-Montrachet is a wine that is sure to impress.
