Domaine Henri Boillot is a family-run winery located in the Burgundy region of France. Founded in the late 19th century, the winery has been producing wines for over a century. The winery is renowned for its Volnay wines, particularly the Les Fremiets 1er Cru.

This Volnay is made from 100% Pinot Noir grapes, grown in the limestone-rich soils of the Les Fremiets vineyard. The grapes are hand-harvested and carefully sorted before being fermented in stainless steel tanks. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels for 12 months before being bottled.

The resulting wine is a deep ruby red in colour, with aromas of ripe red fruits, spices, and earthy notes. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied and well-balanced, with a silky texture and a long finish. The tannins are well-integrated and the acidity is fresh and lively.

This Volnay Les Fremiets 1er Cru is a classic Burgundy wine, with a complex and elegant character. It is a great accompaniment to a variety of dishes, from roasted meats to game dishes. Enjoy this wine now or cellar it for up to 10 years for further complexity.

Experience the unique character of this Volnay Les Fremiets 1er Cru and savor the flavors of Burgundy. With its complex aromas and flavors, this wine is sure to delight your taste buds.

More reserved than the Chevrets, Boillot's 2019 Volnay 1er Cru Frémiets mingles scents of raspberries and plums with hints of rose petals and spices. Medium-bodied, tangy, and mineral, with a pretty core of fruit and fine, powdery tannins, it will reward a bit of bottle age.
The 2018 Volnay 1er Cru Frémiets exhibits lovely aromas of raspberries and cherries mingled with orange rind, spice, and raw cocoa. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, lively, and fine-boned, from more calcium-rich soils than Les Chevrets and built around bright acids and fine, chalky tannins.
The 2017 Volnay 1er Cru Frémiets displays appealing aromas of smoked meats, plums, wild berries, dark chocolate, and rich soil. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, broad-shouldered, and velvety, with fine-boned structuring tannins cloaked in sapid and succulent fruit.

The French Wine region of Burgundy (aka “Bourgogne”) may be small in size, but its influence is huge in the world of vino. The complexity of Burgundy can cast fear into the heart of even a seasoned wine pro, but fear not – the region need only be as complicated as you want it to be. Yes, it is home to some of the most expensive wines in the known universe, but there are also tasty and affordable wines.

Main grapes:

Pinot Noir originated in Burgundy and these vines cover 34% of the region, accounting for 29% of overall wine production. The red grape does extremely well in limestone and clay soil, which helps create their complexity. Pinot Noir wines from Burgundy range in colour from cherry to brick, are light in body, and typically have red fruit and spicy flavours. Gamay is a red grape also grown in Burgundy, but only makes up 10% of the vines.

Chardonnay is the primary grape for white wines in Burgundy, making up 48% of the vines and 68% of production. Chardonnay appreciates Burgundy’s marl soil, which gives it delicate floral, fruit, and mineral aromas and full-bodied flavours. Aligoté is the second white grape, accounting for 6% grown. {Read more about the ancient Aligoté grape in Burgundy.}

The region does produce a sparkling wine called Crémant de Bourgogne. It can be made from Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Aligoté, Gamay, Sacy, and Melon. Varieties include blanc, blanc de blancs, blanc de noirs, and rosé.
