Kavalan Whisky is Taiwan's first whisky distillery, established in 2005 in Yilan County in northeastern Taiwan. The distillery operates under King Car Group and produces single malt whisky using traditional Scottish methods adapted to Taiwan's subtropical climate. Located in a region with pure spring water from the Snow Mountains and influenced by oceanic winds, Kavalan has become Taiwan's most internationally recognized whisky producer.

Taiwan's hot and humid climate accelerates the maturation process significantly compared to traditional whisky regions like Scotland. This means Kavalan whiskies can achieve complex flavor profiles in shorter aging periods, with the angel's share (evaporation) reaching up to 15% annually compared to 2% in Scotland. The distillery uses a combination of American oak, sherry, and wine casks for maturation, creating whiskies with tropical fruit notes and rich, honeyed characteristics that reflect the unique terroir.

Kavalan's Solist series represents their cask strength offerings, bottled directly from individual casks without blending. The Manzanilla sherry cask expressions showcase the influence of Spanish fortified wine barrels, typically delivering notes of dried fruits, nuts, and coastal salinity that complement the whisky's inherent tropical character.
